Companies

Manage company records and organizational structure.

Companies

Companies are optional organizational records in your program—dealers, stores, branches, agencies, or any grouping you want to track alongside members. Use them when you need company-level reporting, registration dropdowns, or tag-based targeting. Programs that only need a flat member list can skip companies entirely.

Optional, and many-to-many. A member does not have to belong to a company. When you use companies, one company can have multiple members, and one member can belong to multiple companies. Link memberships from either the company record or the member profile.

Overview

From Members → Companies you can:

  • Create and edit company records (name, data key, status, linked members, tags)
  • Import companies from CSV or download the current list
  • Delete companies (members are unlinked, not deleted)
  • Manage company tags for segmentation, registration filters, and content visibility

Companies appear on the Dashboard in top-company tables and growth charts when you use them. Member and company links stay in sync whether you edit from the company side or from Members → Members.

When to use companies

Use caseWhy companies help
Dealer / store hierarchyGroup members under locations for leaderboards and reporting
Self-registrationLet registrants create or join a company on the sign-up form
SegmentationApply company tags for registration groups, communications, and filters
External IDsStore a Data Key per company (e.g. dealer code) for imports and integrations

If none of these apply, you can run the program with members only—no company setup required.

Where to find it

  • Route: /companies/{programId}
  • Side navigation: Members → Companies
  • Tabs: Companies (list) and Tags (company tag definitions)

Prerequisites

  • An open program with an active, trial, or demo subscription
  • Program administrator access assigned to your account
  • Editor role (or higher) to add, edit, delete, or import companies—Observer can view the list but cannot edit

For registration flows that require company selection, create companies (and tags if needed) before opening Registration & Sign-In.

Company statuses

StatusMeaning
ActiveCompany is available for linking, registration, and reporting
InactiveCompany remains in the system but can be excluded from active use depending on your program setup

Set status when creating or editing a company.

Step-by-step

Add a company

  1. Open Members → Companies.
  2. Click add new company.
  3. Complete the form:
    • Company Name (required) — must be unique in the program
    • Data Key — optional external identifier (e.g. dealer code); must be unique if set; read-only when managed via API
    • Members — search and select one or more members to link (optional)
    • StatusActive or Inactive
    • Company Tags — optional tags for segmentation and registration groups
  4. Click Create Company.

Linked members are updated automatically—their company associations appear on the Members list and profile.

Edit a company

  1. Click the company name in the list, or choose Edit from the row menu (requires Editor role).
  2. Update name, data key, status, members, or tags.
  3. Click Save Company.

Adding or removing members here updates each member’s Companies field. Removing a member from a company does not delete the member.

The More section (existing companies only) shows Created, Updated, and System ID.

You can also assign companies when adding or editing a member—use the Companies field on the profile tab. A member can have zero, one, or many companies.

Import companies from CSV

  1. Click Upload.
  2. Upload CSV — map columns to Company Name (required), plus optional Data Key and Tags.
  3. Use semicolons (;) to separate multiple tags in one cell.
  4. Review — rows show as Add New, Update Existing, or Omitted.
  5. Complete import. New company tags in the file are created automatically if needed.

Import rules

  • New company — provide Company Name only. Duplicate names without a matching data key are Omitted.
  • Update existing — include the company’s Data Key in the CSV. You can update title and tags for that record.
  • Members — company CSV import does not link members. Assign members in the company or member editor, or use Company Keys on member CSV import.

Download the company list

Click Download to export the current page of companies as CSV. Columns include Company, Account Key, Status, Members, Company Tags, Points, Created, and Updated.

Delete a company

  1. Choose Delete from the row menu.
  2. Confirm.

The company record is removed. Linked members are unlinked but not deleted. Points and member history are unchanged.

Manage company tags

  1. Open the Tags tab on Members → Companies.
  2. Click add new tag to create a tag, or click a tag name to edit.
  3. Delete unused tags from the row menu (requires Editor role).

Company tags are described in the admin as helping manage content visibility. They also power:

  • Registration groups — limit which companies appear on the sign-up form (Registration & Sign-In)
  • Member list filters — filter members by inherited company tags
  • Communicate — target emails by company tag

The In Use column shows whether a tag is applied to any companies. Deleting a tag removes it from all companies and members automatically.

Tips and limitations

  • Demo programs — Add, import, delete, and upload actions are disabled on demo programs.
  • Unique names and keys — Company names must be unique. Data keys must be unique when provided.
  • API-managed companies — Companies created or synced via the Companies API may lock the Data Key field. Check integration details before editing manually.
  • Bidirectional links — Member–company links sync both ways. Edit from either the company dialog or the member profile.
  • Member delete — Soft-deleting a member unlinks them from all companies; deleting a company only unlinks members.
  • Registration setup — Company dropdowns, “add company at registration”, and multi-company join options are configured under Registration & Sign-In, not on this page.
  • No companies required — Members can earn points, redeem rewards, and use the member site without any company assignment.
Typical dealer program? Import your company list first, import members with Company Keys to link them, then enable registration so new dealers can join or create companies on sign-up.
